Hash Generator
A hash generator computes cryptographic hash values for any text using SHA-256, SHA-384, and SHA-512 algorithms. Hashes are one-way functions producing fixed-length fingerprints of any input. Developers verify file integrity, store passwords securely, and create digital signatures. Uses Web Crypto API for standards-compliant cryptography. All hashing is done entirely in your browser. The tool passes your input through the SHA-2 family of hash functions using the Web Crypto API. SHA-256 produces a 256-bit hash, SHA-384 produces 384 bits, and SHA-512 produces 512 bits. Each hash is a unique fingerprint represented as a hexadecimal string. The same input always produces the same hash, but even a tiny change produces a completely different hash. Verifying file downloads match expected checksums. Storing password hashes securely in databases. Creating digital signatures for document verification. Generating content-addressed storage keys. Verifying data integrity during transfer. Creating unique identifiers for cached content. SHA-256 provides sufficient security for most applications. SHA-512 offers additional protection against future attacks. Hashes are one-way and cannot be reversed to find the original input. Compare hashes side by side to verify two pieces of data are identical. For password storage, use bcrypt or argon2 instead of plain SHA.
